Der Herr Kanzleirat plot
Leopold Bachmayer is a law-abiding servant of the regional court, where he deals with minor legal disputes. Shortly before his vacation, he is presented with a case concerning a stolen brooch and falls completely under the spell of the seductive Marianne Seewald. He even goes so far as to follow her to her vacation address in Velden am Wörthersee. When Marianne is harassed by a gentleman, he reluctantly pretends to be her husband in a chivalrous way, which he should not have done.
