Nice.

Not exactly the kind of film you expect from Gervais and Merchant, who usually look for their humor in other places. This is actually mostly feel-good, although the basis is a kind of social drama. But luckily they ignore the melancholy (has been done so often) and the duo opts for a warmer approach.

You notice that it is ultimately by Gervais/Merchant, mainly from the cameos. Both gentlemen themselves of course, but Speirs, David Earl and of course Karl Pilkington all belong to their world, although some only after this film. Sometimes it also leaves looking like its advantages.

Furthermore, a film that flies by. Quite funny, it is also not heavy on the stomach, but is also emotionally touching at the right moments. Actors all do well, direction is skilled (but rather well-behaved) and it doesn't take too long either.

Very fine filler with other woods. It's not a real masterpiece, it colors a bit too much within the lines for that, but I had a lot of fun with it.

3.5*

Frankly, I had never heard of this movie. But because it was on Netflix and I usually like Gervais, I put it on. And I don't regret that at all.

Because what a fun, sympathetic film Cemetery Junction is. The Reading of the 1970s is portrayed in a delightful way. With the now often outdated ideas of the time in a glorious and rather blunt leading role. No laughing vultures roar, and no tear-jerking emotional scenes either. But a subtle smile and a light sob. Gervais has managed to drum up a fine, balanced cast and despite the fact that the film is not really original anywhere, he never gets bored.

Fairly.

Not great cinema, but a neatly made film against the charming background of the 1970s and set within typical British working conditions. It remains to be seen whether it will go the comic or the dramatic way, but they have managed to keep that in balance. The film is especially sympathetic: easily digestible and easily digestible. An ideal relaxer on a weekday evening, no more and no less.
