Casa Coco plot
The Rotterdam Pleun has been running Casa Coco for years, a guest house for reflection and tranquility on Bonaire. The Rotterdammers from her own circle of acquaintances like to come by for a wonderful holiday together. This autumn also Pleun's childhood sweetheart Toon who, after his wife has announced that he wants to divorce, comes along with a befriended couple to make his problems under the Antillean sun forgotten. The two ex-lovers have not seen each other for years. Because Pleun left Toon out of nowhere fifty years ago and left for Bonaire, Toon goes from one problem to another.

After the trailer I had quite some expectations from this film, I expected a hilarious comedy, because the players in it promised a lot of good...... but what a weak bite. With images of Rotterdam, Bram Ladage and Lee Towers, you set the Rotterdam tone, but Rotterdam Tone could not save the film, it still remains a bit Jaap Kooiman. Having Frederrique Spigt in her role say the phrase 'my heart doesn't know that' was a bit mwah.... And for the rest there just should have been a lot more. A real plot, for example. Why is that Hugo so keen on Casa Coco? Just because of that casino? They really could have made a lot more of the plan to checkmate him. What I really liked: the scene between Gerard Cox and Gijs de Lange about dementia, and the following scene between De Lange and Luca who find each other again. But the 'conversation' between Groenendijk and Spigt afterwards I find cringeworthy. In short, a film that could have been quite something, but it just doesn't get anywhere. Despite the star cast, despite the sunny atmosphere, despite the many opportunities there were to make something really fun out of it.

Great film for in between, certainly not a high-flyer and here and there some rather poor acting and a wafer-thin story, otherwise easy to watch.
