Peg Dahl is a swindler who will do anything to escape from her hometown of Buffalo, New York. After getting into trouble, she becomes overburdened with debt and seems to have squandered her chances for a better future. She then decides to claim debts herself as a bailiff and go to war with the local crime boss.
