Big in Japan plot

A surf-rock trio from Seattle has barely any reason to exist. The only advice they get from their promoter is that they must first become successful elsewhere before they can break through in the US. The men take this very literally and travel to Tokyo to build a career in Japan. The three desperate musicians sell their tour bus to scrape together just enough money for the trip. In Japan they have to endure the necessary, but also renewed creative energy. Is that breakthrough in Japan in the making?
