Felix Krull, a handsome manufacturer's son, is a born sweet talker and tout with a great aura that brings him many benefits. After his father's suicide, he has to make it on his own. He wants to evade military service and therefore starts working as a lift boy in a hotel in Paris, where he falsely impersonates a marquis. But when the real Marquis commits a murder, Felix is held responsible.
