So last night I was in the mood for an Allen again and I decided to go for this movie.

I've seen some crazy and weird movies before and this one fits in between them effortlessly. It is clearly still Allen's early days as a director, which makes this film look a bit sloppy and incoherent at some points. The advantage, however, is that this film is nice and absurd and the story too nonsensical for words, so that occasionally some crazy situations are reviewed and Allen can also do his thing as an actor here.

The amount of jokes in this film is very high, it sometimes even tends to slapstick and because of that there is also a lot of stupidity, but fortunately also some decent funny scenes, which made me laugh a few times. The tram scene with Sylvester Stalone, the visit to the sex book shop and the training cycle with the rebels are fun highlights in this film.

Still a fun movie nonetheless. As in all Allens, Bananas is also full of fun witticisms and ideas, some of which you will certainly see better developed in later films. It is also a bit of a combination of later films such as Manhattan (the first half hour) in which it is a romantic comedy with an insecure and neurotic Allen in New York, to the more experimental Zelig (the second half hour) and Woody all late. going all out in his absurdism in the last 20 minutes in court and then it is more of a parody than in Sleeper. Furthermore, there are also nice finds in it, making this a smooth and colorful comedy. But it's a bit too much loose sand and just not fun enough to really connect with his best work. 3.5 stars.

This is just slapstick! Definitely a way I've never seen Woody. Sure, I've seen him bumble many times, but never in this way. Humor is also super bland and unfortunately a bit dated. If I'd seen this movie in theaters around the time it came out, I probably would've caved. A lot of stabbing below the belt towards anything and everything (Cold War, American justice system, the church, Castro) interspersed with pure, dry humor. Friendly.
