"Brigitte Bardot is a Comedienne Now!"
At the outbreak of World War II, Babette (Brigitte Bardot) flees from France to England and gets a job as a maid at the French headquarters in England. Then it is noticed that she looks very much like the ex-lover of a German general and she is sent back to France as a spy.

The first French comedy about the Second World War, and the 'too soon' is indeed dripping from it. Nevertheless, the film was a huge success in France at the time, with over four and a half million viewers. At the time of the film, BB was married to Charrier, but I didn't notice any of that on screen—and I wasn't particularly impressed by BB's role either—Francis Blanche with his absurdly exaggerated Papa Schulz is the only one who makes anything of it. Still, back then, people apparently did find it funny—has the sense of humor changed, or are we missing too much of the context now?
In any case, I think it is a film to forget.
