Nagler, the conservative mayor of a small idyllic village, doesn't like the plan of his son Hans who wants to marry a girl from Vienna. For political reasons, he would like to marry his son off to the daughter of a councilor. Nagler also opposes the project of allowing 40 illegitimate children to spend their holidays in his village. And into the bargain, a nurse shows up claiming to be an illegitimate daughter of the mayor.
