"Al Mor wa Al Rumman"
Ramallah today. The husband of the free-spirited dancer Kamar ends up in prison. Devastated, she decides to pick up dancing again and there she meets the Palestinian Kais. Sparks fly and more than a passionate, emotional dance blossoms between them. Meanwhile, the family faces one hurdle after another in their legal battle against the confiscation of their land. Kamar's life becomes more complicated as her bond with Kais deepens, and she becomes swept up in her desire to dance and break the social taboos surrounding her role as a prisoner's wife. Meanwhile, life under the occupation rages on.

Interesting look at the daily life of a well-off Palestinian family in the occupied West Bank. A romantic drama, where it is quite poignant to see how disenfranchised the lives of the Palestinians have actually been for generation after generation. Unfortunately, that problem remains somewhat in the background. This actually makes it a remarkably good film, a bit too good in my opinion. There is a nice supporting role from the fearless Hiam Abbass (The Syrian Bride, The Visitor, Lemon Tree).

Film that I should like, but it focuses just too much on uninteresting things. The performances are also somewhat flat, so the actors were unable to involve me. It's not all bad and the film gives a nice insight into the lives there, but it simply didn't touch me and bored me too much to give it a passing grade. 2.0*.
