Think this is the least Fellini I've seen so far. Very boring event that clearly suffers from the lack of a tension arc, or story if you will. The heckling of that old man is by the way a very nice find and especially the tracking shot for those white stalls along, very good. Things like this save Amarcord from a truly inglorious score.

The cycle of the four seasons is the peg on which childhood memories are hung. In spring, seed fluff floats through the air; in summer there is sun, sea and azure sky; in the fall there is fog, bare trees and withered leaves; in winter there is snow. The phases of life are related to this: the youth of the students in the spring; a senile elderly person in the fall; sickness and death in winter. At the end, the cycle starts over with new sperm fluff and a marriage.

The title is derived from the dialect of Emilia-Romagna, the region where Fellini herself grew up in the 1930s. He drew on his childhood memories, but it is not really autobiographical. Unlike the director, Titta is an only child and son of a master builder. This central character is primarily an observer. In a succession of nostalgic memories, he is surrounded by eccentric relatives, classmates, teachers and village figures. The local beauty Gradisca stands out for the bright red color in all her scenes. The colossal tobacco saleswoman arouses the first feelings of lust in the adolescent. Historical events take place in the background, in particular the rise of fascism. American cinema is also present: there are posters with Laurel and Hardy, among others, and the groom is called Gary Cooper. The lawyer breaks the fourth wall as an expert in local history.

Nino Rota uses two recurring themes: the descending main theme and the light melody that the hairdresser plays on his flute. The accompaniment has the character of circus music, because Fellini saw life as a circus or a colorful procession with crazy figures.

Nice, pleasant, good-humoured film by Fellini, who looks back with nostalgia to his youth in Rimini. Amarcord is a series of scenes from the socio-political life under the fascism of the 1930s. The passing of the seasons gives rhythm to the film : the witch burning heralds the beginning of spring, in the summer the disturbed uncle from the family climbs a tree and does not want to get out, in the fall grandpa gets lost in the fog just outside his front door. The film is also full of sexual fantasies. Not least La Gradisca, but especially the scene where Titta blows on the gigantic breasts of the excited grocer instead of sucking (yes!) is very well known. A lot of colorful figures pass by (who are fantastic ), but scenes in which a "narrator" looks into the camera appeals less to me. The music is beautiful and animates Fellini's theater of life. You have to be able to go along with it because the director uses a very special style that will not appeal to everyone and yet has left a huge mark on contemporary cinema.
