Vivek is seventeen and so, as every middle-class family in India knows, it is high time to enroll in a preparation course for the extremely competitive entrance exams of the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs). Vivek's father, who considers an IIT degree a moral one, sends his only son to a private preparatory school in Kota, the mecca of IIT courses. In two years we see Vivek dutifully go through all the phases of Indian adolescence, but his parents are the ones who grow up.
