He lived to win a war, but couldn't survive the peace

George C. Scott repeats as George S. Patton, in the sequel to the impressive film Patton (1970). With the tragic outcome of the unsung hero of WWII - and especially tragic because of the extremely stupid way in which it was done and the great contrast with the original film.

Scott plays his role excellently, but it is not a nice film. Whether reality was followed in all details is perhaps a matter of faith - just like what could have happened if he had been able to continue for a few more years. As the quote on the poster suggests, not everyone could handle the transition from war to peace, and perhaps this applies more to this sculpture made by politics and media larger than life than to all others.

In terms of production values, the film is actually more of a questionable television film than a decent film or documentary. It is only the strength of the story and the good cast that makes it something.
