'The Iron Major' is adapted from the biography of Florence E. Cavanaugh. Francis William 'Cav' Cavanaugh is an American football coach and World War I war hero. After the war, Cavanaugh leads the Fordham football team at Dartmouth Boston College to victory. According to Cavanaugh's wife Florence, her husband works by the maxim 'Love or God? Love or Country? Love or Family!'. But when Cavanaugh is in his mid-thirties, he becomes seriously ill. Could this be the result of his World War I wounds?
