A biopic about a singer naturally stands or falls with the quality of the music. That is beyond any doubt in the case of Whitney Houston. The story is rather fleeting about her demise, but I can't say I missed that much. What I remember most is her unparalleled voice. When Houston opens her throat, I regularly blow my socks off. What a shame that it came to an early end.

Nice film about a girl who grows into one of the most successful singers of all time. A rather standard musical biopic about Whitney Houston. The whole is brought a little too safe and is partly because of this too predictable. No shortage of material, because her life was eventful enough. It all looks good and also a smart move to use her own voice for the songs (since her singing voice is difficult to approach). Just not 3.5 stars.

Did I think it was a top movie? No. But the music is part of my childhood. Just like other many top artists who are unfortunately no longer there. Would it be nice to see a film that tells the life of an artist in a nutshell and takes me into my memories. You also had the film adaptation of Tina Turner, André Hazes, Queen, Johnny Cash, Ray Charles, which I all enjoyed watching. In this list, I think this film is the least. Well acted and music ok, but was never really a fan of Witney. Think this film is rather a summary of all hits that are filled in between with some life story. The problems Witney had are presented very superficially as if they were the most normal things in the world. Adultery, drugs, stress,… Nowhere does it get really emotional. What has stayed with me in this film is her friendship with her creative director Robyn Crawford and her producer Clive Davis. I also did not know how what role her parents have always played, especially her father as a manager. That's why it's always nice to see a movie like this. But as I said before, I was not as moved or drawn into the story as I am with other biographies. 3*
