In 1921, the young poet Anna Barková stands on the threshold of a glittering career. Her first collection of poetry has just been published and it is said that she could become Russia's greatest poet, even eclipsing Alexander Pushkin. A few years later, she's in a packed open truck on the plains of Kazakhstan. Anna Barková (1906-1976) spent 22 years in the Gulags. She survived thanks to her poems and her love for a woman named Valentina.
