Wizards plot
"An epic fantasy of peace and magic."
After a major nuclear war, most people died or were horribly maimed. The only other creatures that can survive on the planet are fairies, elves, wizards and monsters. But they don't get along too well, until one day two elf children are born, who could decide the fate of the earth.

A very strange anti-militarist animated film for adults. There are quite a few references to dictatorship and war. Wizards is, therefore, a satire on the misuse of technology, propaganda, and the Holocaust. The animation is quite basic and is sometimes interspersed with footage from World War II. It is not a difficult film in the sense that it is a very simple good vs. evil story, but it is visualized in an experimental way that will put many off.

In the 70s, animation seemed to consist of Disney, comic book adaptations like Asterix, or very unique indie films like Fritz the Cat, Fantastic Planet, and this Wizards. The style comes across as somewhat amateurish, but ironically, it is refreshing to see such an unpolished animation style every now and then. Wizards is from the same creator as Fritz the Cat and is therefore less aimed at children. It is also officially Mark Hamill's film debut as a voice actor, shortly before the release of Star Wars that same year. I wouldn't mind if more mature animated films were made again.
