Young dreamer 'Chris' Andersen isn't happy at all at home, and after yet another argument with his mean father, he decides to run away. After a long, tiring journey, Chris falls asleep under a tree and begins to dream. He dreams, among other things, about a little sad mermaid who falls in love with a human being, about a girl as small as a thumb and about a pathetic ugly duckling.
