"Time to mark some territory."
The pugnacious dog Hank (Michael Cera) dreams of becoming a great warrior. The cat Jimbo (Samuel L. Jackson), once a famous warrior, has fallen into a bad shape. Despite his bad condition, he reluctantly takes Hank under his wing. Jimbo teaches Hank the martial arts of a samurai. Together, they try to prevent their town from turning Kakamucho into a litter box.

As has been said here before, this is primarily a film for children. It's no good anywhere. The jokes don't come in and all the clichés are back in. Nice to turn on on a hot day when the children are on holiday and the parents are sitting outside in the shade. Because they certainly don't have to watch.

It's similar to Kung Fu Panda (but with a dog), but story-wise it's a remake of Blazing Saddles. There it was a black sheriff in a conservative town. Here we get a dog in a city full of cats. A way to retell the story without kicking too many shins. Although Mel Brooks (original director and writer; voice role in Paws of fury) did so with the necessary hilarious black humour.
The film constantly seeks a balance between a children's film and black humor, between sharp jokes and clichés, between visual humor and simple animation. The film is not original and the animation will not break any pots. At the same time I had to laugh more than I expected and it had been a long time since I had such fun with a similar animation film. The film does not need to win any awards, but it certainly deserves more attention than many other animated films.
