Kaoru Tono hears a rumor about an urban legend that piques his interest: there is a mysterious tunnel that can grant wishes. Whoever finds the tunnel and dares to walk through it will grow older and lose years of life. At first, Kaoru finds it hard to believe the bizarre story, but when he comes across the controversial tunnel, something comes to mind. Perhaps he can bring back his younger sister Karen, who died in an accident five years ago. Kaoru also appears to be haunted by the enigmatic, newly transferred student Anzu Hanashiro. She makes an appointment with Kaoru to help him experiment with the magic tunnel.

A nice Japanese anime about a mysterious tunnel where your wishes come true. With that one detail that the time in the tunnel is accelerated. One minute quickly turns into several days in reality. It is a dilemma and an additional difficulty for Kaoru and Anzu to deal with.
Both grow closer and each have their reasons for entering the tunnel. Beautiful atmospheric anime, imaginative and very beautifully designed, especially in the tunnel. I've seen better anime before, but I thought this one was definitely worth it.

It's clear this film was inspired by Shinkai, and the similarities are numerous. While I wouldn't consider it too closely related to another Shinkai, it is an ideal, high-quality filler between two of his films. Especially because the film seems to fit its place.
Not too much cruft, no overly ambitious goals, just the best execution possible and sticking to the core. Beautiful animation, atmospheric, a nice mix of drama and fantasy, and a running time that doesn't stay under 90 minutes. It doesn't need to be more than that. This is quite a nice surprise.
