This film is difficult to place, because I am always up for a good old fashioned space adventure and Lightyear provides that just fine. Only are people specifically waiting for this film? At the same time, it is the spin-off that I would definitely like to see from Toy Story if they do make one.

And that's how conflicting the whole film actually feels. Lightyear never goes out of the way (figuratively speaking), but never really manages to impress. The animation is very nice, but nothing special in the current era. The characters are funny, but nowhere extremely hilarious. The story is entertaining, but nothing special. Playing on the emotions works nicely, but nowhere did it make me cry like Toy Story 3 or 4. Just that ideal sixes culture. However, the film falls a bit between two stools here. I think this movie will ultimately appeal more to adults than to youth. Especially the jokes that made me laugh will undoubtedly not be understood by the youth.

And then you miss a bit of that Pixar magic. No more previews these days, but just the main movie right away. It's all those little things that negate the movie experience a bit in these commercial streaming times. The love for Pixar is starting to fade and that secretly hurts a bit.

Having said all that: you will of course have a nice time in the cinema with this film.

The animated film cannot match the Toy Story series, but that does not necessarily have to be a shame. What is nice is the starting point that was taken from the perspective of the boy's favorite film (and character). I follow most of the comments here.

Technically more than in order and little to criticize. In terms of content, on the other hand, a bit too thin to speak of a great film. That time lapse or whatever you call it, had a great starting point, but as far as I'm concerned it was a bit too much in the end with that copy. The little humor that was present was successful. That kitten, for example, but also that slut. I found the other characters a bit boring or even annoying.

The message of the film will probably be something that you should dwell on the beautiful moments and friendships you have today and that it can be over soon. I thought it was quite a touching moment in the film when Buzz finds that his buddy was suddenly gone...

I didn't have high expectations for this movie. Toy Story is a bit dated imo and I wasn't waiting for a spinoff from this. But Lightyear fortunately has a bit more depth and is not Toy Story 5 without Woody, but a real Lightyear film in itself. With wonderful peripheral characters, the necessary humor that works best and no unnecessary soft rock theme song as we are used to at Pixar. There is room for some drama and tension, it shouldn't all be fun and laughter. In terms of style, it finds a way between an ode to the well-known toy and a more serious space film. A pleasant surprise I must say.
