So it enlists the help of Section 9, a secret organization that has to do odd jobs for the government. It is the job of Motoko Kusanagi, a cyber agent, to hunt down the "Master" with her partner. Interesting. On average I'm not that into Asian work and have negligible experience with anime/manga. But my interest in the science fiction made a friend recommend this film to me. Heard of course, but never seen it.

Considering that the print dates back to 1995, cooperate; it gives more appreciation for the ideas that are given. We now know more of these stories (Matrix, Avalon) and there were also before (Total Recall), but the idea is captivating from start to finish. It contains strong monologues to explain technological developments to the viewer, which is sometimes a bit chewy, but also pleasant. The story is in no way inferior to a well-layered techno thriller with political statements.

Visually it varies; it is over 25 years old and it shows, on the other hand the cinematographic ideas are clear and beautifully executed. I'd say this is crying out for a remake, but I see that a Hollywood live action version was indeed made 4 years ago...don't know if I'm up to it

The soundtrack is very good, often subtle, but adding presence. (7.5)
