Ice Age plot

"They came. They thawed. They conquered."

Twenty thousand years ago, glaciers stretched across the earth and the animals everywhere fled from the looming ice age. During this time of peril, a strange horde of animals roams about: the smooth sloth Sid, the grumpy mammoth Manny, the diabolical saber-toothed tiger Diego and the squirrel Scrat. These misfits unexpectedly team up to reunite a human child with his family. To do this, they must brave lava pools, treacherous ice caves and the necessary ambushes. This is how these comical, prehistoric friends become the first heroes on Earth...

I've always loved Ice Age. It's just a shame that the franchise has drastically lowered the level towards the later films. The greatest asset of Ice age are the very successful characters. One by one they have their own personality and complement each other well. The outsider is the coincidentally regularly appearing Scrat. He doesn't have much to do with the story, but provides some hilarious moments.

Sid also provides some fun moments with his idiocy and his bickering with Manny and Diego is infectious. The story is fun to follow and along the way also contains a small moral around friendship and self-sacrifice. Attention is also paid to the myth of the last mammoth.

Visually it also all looks ok, although it is certainly not spectacular. Film also reminds me a bit of Shrek with the quest and the here chatty and insufferable Sid instead of Donkey. Nice film where it is Scrat who pushes the film to a higher dimension. Funny and pathetic at the same time. Great character, not only because of his antics, but also because he is created to perfection with his noises, twitching paw or eyelid when he tries to bury his acorn. Movie that never gets boring!

“I've eaten things that didn't complain this much.”

Excellent animated film. Ice Age, of course, mainly relies on the interplay between Sid, Diego and Manny, and it is very entertaining to watch their adventures. Humorous, but such a scene with Manny looking at the cave drawings of his ancestors also shows Ice Age to have an emotional undertone. Many animated films try to combine this, but only the best can really do that to perfection. And Ice Age comes a long way, mainly because of the fun characters and the strong voice actors.
