"The boy who flew too close to the sun"

Icarus is the young apprentice of his father, the famous inventor Daedalus, in his sculpture workshop in Knossos. His life is turned upside down by the discovery of a mysterious bull-headed boy who lives hidden in the royal palace. A secret friendship links the two teenagers until King Minos traps the "monster" in the labyrinth built by Daedalus. At the same time, Icarus loses his only friend and the trust he had in his father. When Prince Theseus arrives in Crete to kill the Minotaur, Icarus is willing to do anything to save his childhood friend.

A film from Luxembourg actually. Quite a rarity, but not recommended for that reason alone. The animated film is pretty cool and tells the famous mythical Greek story of the Minotaur, King Minos and the ultimately proud Icarus.

It's not really discussed in the film, but Icarus, the son of the famous architect Daedalus, calls the Minotaur Asterion. According to legend, the latter would have been the son of King Minos. The story also tells the difficult relationship between father Daedalus and his son Icarus. Of course also the story of the feud between Crete and Athens, etc.

The Minotaur didn't look particularly scary, but all in all the animated film is visually more than solid. Not the absolute budget of top animations like Pixar, but quite simple, yet very beautiful and colorful. Definitely recommended, especially for those who love Greek mythology. I'll have to show it to my son now that he's studying Greek-Latin.
