So I really thought this was a beauty of a film. When I saw it for the first time I was still quite young and so I was more impressed by the images. But in the meantime I also appreciate the story and especially the great soundtrack.

I think the game itself is brilliant, despite getting to about half way twice and then putting it down. I sometimes have that with games, suddenly different interests. Now my brother went to play it again and I watched the rest for the most part, and then finally watched this film together.

Where I was almost immediately captivated by the oppressive, apocalyptic atmosphere in the game, I didn't want to get into it here. It's nice that the many characters have been given a polygon boost that makes them look a lot better. The CGI is still quite enjoyable ten years later. It even includes some songs from Uematsu's original soundtrack, and the voices don't sound bad, even though they're missing from the game.

Still, the story didn't catch on. That was already well told in the game and for me it was over. How the story is then restarted feels forced and quickly ends in a CGI spectacle that doesn't impress me much. I even got a Biker Mice From Mars feeling at one point. Even when Sephiroth made his appearance - a gaming legend - I didn't get the goosebumps I wanted. I missed the mystery around the characters. The dark side, like when Sephiroth set Neibelheim on fire in the game. Greatly done by combination of music, graphics and atmosphere. Here it was a bit of an empty CGI shell.

Certainly not bad beyond this Final Fantasy, but in my opinion a tad superfluous. The best moment was actually Reno's ringtone after his fight with Tifa. Despite that, like millions of others, I'm still looking forward to a remake.

The game Final Fantasy 7 was a masterpiece and this movie is a nice tribute to that.

Fantastically beautiful cgi images, plenty of action and many recognizable characters.

For me as a final fantasy 7 fan it was a nostalgic trip and a beautiful movie
