The Rescue plot

English adventurer Tom Lingard becomes involved with the inhabitants of a Pacific island and with Lady Edith and Mr Travers, an English couple, who are sailing. Tom has an unexpected love affair with Lady Edith. During this affair, the Travers' boat is destroyed, with Lady Edith's husband dying, leaving Tom in a state of conscience.
