Lame.
The Brendan Fraser movies from 20 years ago, and therefore from my childhood, are still entertaining guilty pleasures today. So I didn't really need a remake/reboot, and certainly not with Tom Cruise in the lead role and Russell Crowe in a supporting role. Those names will never warm me up.
And it must be said: The Mummy has been updated and that is noticeable because of the CGI. But other than that it's pretty poor. The umpteenth uninspired plot offers little innovation. Cruise is typically Cruise and the rest of the cast can barely make anything out of it.
With 1h50 one nicely follows the average playing time of such action films. I'm glad they didn't add another fifteen minutes, but it doesn't detract from the fact that it's all a bit meager.

Normally I can appreciate the acting and movies of both Tom Cruise and Russell Crowe, but this has to be one of the worst movies I've seen. What a cool story with ditto acting. And if it was still funny like in the movies with Brendan Fraser then maybe it could have been something. But this vehicle takes itself way too seriously and is therefore nowhere fun, exciting, scary or whatever. Total dredge brrrr.
