The Hunger Games plot

"May The Odds Be Ever In Your Favor."

In the near future, North America will be ravaged by drought, fire and war. It is now called Panem, a country divided into the 'Capital' and twelve regions. Every year, two young participants from each district are drawn with the aim of eliminating the other participants in a competition. The people are forced to watch these 'matches'. For entertainment, but also to intimidate the subjugated districts. Katniss voluntarily takes the place of her sister, who was selected to participate. Peeta, a man without any combat skills, will accompany her. Together they face much stronger and better trained participants...

Rewatched this one and I still think it's a good movie. The film is well structured and you get to know the characters well. The film contains enough action, but there is also enough room for story.

The cast did a great job and came across convincingly. Visually it was also fine.

Nice to see this again and continue to recommend it.

Maybe as a grumpy old fart and clearly not the target audience, I should just keep my distance from these kinds of films. Because despite a few positive points of light, this was mainly a lot of irritation. The dystopia was bland, fake and (despite the gladiator concept to the death) hardly threatening. It all looks very kitschy. Just about every participant in the Hunger Games behaved like an idiot. First of all, for a movie that's supposed to be about a fight to the death, very few actually die on screen, and we have a victor who kills just about nobody. There is also no tension. Slow, long-winded, boring, that's it. What saves the film a bit is that there are a few great actors in it, especially Jennifer Lawrence does well, although the aforementioned great actors sometimes have terrible roles to play. I'll just call a Woody Harrelson. Okay, enough grumbling.

This stiff bastard is going back under his rock and leaving the young adult genre for what it is. But not before handing out a 1.5*.
