Stranger Paul Bonnard hires American adventurer Joe January to guide him from Timbuktu across the Sahara in search of the ruins of a lost city called Timgad. There is said to be a treasure and Bonnard promises to share it with his guide. On his way, the beautiful slave girl Dita joins the company. After resisting sandstorms and tarantulas, the trio finally arrive at the city. But now Bonnard has gone mad because of the sweltering sun and the tensions. He threatens Joe and Dita with a gun and runs off with the supplies. Joe and Dita must therefore find a way to get back and once again withstand the dangers of the desert.
