On the day of his engagement to his lover Mecédès, Edmond Dantès is arrested for treason and ends up in a prison on the island of Château d'If. He realizes that he has been framed. After years of captivity, he is joined by the priest Abbé Faria, who is also wrongly imprisoned. Before he dies, he tells Edmond a secret about a hidden treasure on the island of Monte Cristo. When Edmond manages to escape, his only goal is to exact revenge on those who ruined his life.
