Tom Donahue is a New York City traffic police officer on Fifth Avenue. One day he wins a newspaper popularity contest and decides to take a trip to Ireland to visit his family. Tom resembles Lord Fitzhugh, nephew of a nobleman who cut him out of his will in favor of his cousin. On his deathbed, the Earl longs to make amends with Fitzhugh. Fitzhugh's sister Gwendolyn meets Tom and takes him back to Killarney. When Fitzhugh fails to appear, she convinces Tom to impersonate him and acquire the fortune.
