Der Geheimnisvolle Schatz von Troja plot
Heinrich Schliemann, who as a child dreamed of the Battle of Troy and the legends of Achilles, Hector and the beautiful Helena, plans to excavate the walls of Troy, which is located in present-day Turkey. Many archaeologists, including the influential Oskar Neumann, find Schliemann ridiculous and dismissed as a daydreamer. Not wanting to go on an expedition alone, the forty-something decides to marry the beautiful 20-year-old Greek Sophia Engastromenos, although she is in love with the equally old Demetrius. While she cannot suffer him at all and there is no love at all, the arranged marriage is concluded anyway. In Turkey, Schliemann is confronted with problems of all kinds. He suspects that Troy is on a certain field, but to work there he has to pay the local owners a large sum to be allowed to start the excavations.
