During the war in China with the Qinq dynasty, In-hong and his cronies Bo-won and Gyeon desert. Destitute they return to Joseon (then Korea) and work there as swindlers. They know how to defraud rich people in all sorts of ingenious ways. When they alienate a precious shipment of tobacco from the warehouse of the greedy Dae-ryun Sung, they find themselves confronted by a powerful man with whom they still have a score to settle. In-hong has a plan. He spreads the rumor that a lot of gold has been found in the local river.
