Black Gold plot

In the 1920s, oil is discovered under the vast land surrounding Tatums in Oklahoma. Ranchers quit their jobs to tap oil wells at random. Mart Ashton, the owner of the Circle Bar Ranch, is also gripped by the gold rush. He has sold his large herd of cattle to finance the purchase of a drilling rig with personnel. However, on an adjacent lot, the 'Ohio Company' begins to drill for oil, causing Ashton to get in trouble.
