Conrad Nagel is a demented German general who refuses to admit that World War II is over. He continues to act like a field marshal in a remote army post in the desert. This brings him into conflict with the young lieutenant Jean. Trying to solve the murder of his best friend, Jean comes into contact with all sorts of shady characters and a sensual dancer.
