Vstrecha u Staroy Mecheti plot

The story takes place in the early 1930s, shortly after the end of the civil war in Central Asia between the Red Army and the Turkish 'basmachi' (bandits). The protagonist is Viktor, then a hero in the civil war and now party leader in a small Tajik town. He must face a group of enemies who have come to his city in hopes of finding gold and are hiding in the old mosque. Viktor puts pen and paper aside and takes up arms again.
