Banty Prentiss returns to Medicine Bow after being released on the advice of his friend Sheriff Johnny Mack Brown. He himself had arrested him for bank theft. Banty finds gold on the land of his ranch, but is told it's not real gold. However, a deputy sheriff receives a report from the municipality that shows that it is indeed gold. Meanwhile, Nan has arrived in town to pay back taxes on the ranch. The banker is out on the ranch itself. The banker has a bunch of outlaws rob the bank while Banty is there and is blamed. Banty ends up in jail again but is freed by his daughter. Brown foils an assassination attempt on Banty, but is arrested by the self-proclaimed Sheriff Pardo. The banker wants to release Banty on the condition that the ranch comes into his hands. Brown and Banty break out of prison and must do everything they can to make things right.
