The Office Games plot

"Time to level up"

Jimmy Spearhead is a socially awkward teenager who still lives at home with his parents and spends his life playing video games. When his parents force him to look for a job, he goes to work in the office. Tina, the girl next door Jimmy has been in love with for a long time, also works there. Although work life is exhausting for Jimmy, he and Tina grow closer. When a rival company suddenly kidnaps Tina and attacks the office, Jimmy must spring into action.

For a film that bills itself as a digital action project, The Office Games offers little in the way of thrills. Director Christian de la Cortina is primarily concerned with a strongly portrayed, dimwitted protagonist who has his eye on his polar opposite as a romantic partner. It's truly incomprehensible that some characters encounter the happiness they ultimately find, since they do little more than play games, rant, and dawdle. The most unfortunate aspect is that the filmmakers fail to create a unique world, despite assembling cast members who deliver decent performances. Flabby humor and half-baked romance prevail, and the childish finale offers no improvement. Bonus points are still awarded for the chemistry between Evan Marsh and Jodelle Ferland, as well as the smooth pacing. Otherwise, this is, unfortunately, mediocrity squared.
