The First Purge plot

"A Nation Reborn"

In view of the crime rates, the NFFA, New Founding Fathers of America, is testing a sociological theory to bring them down. In a closed community, anyone is allowed to express themselves aggressively towards others for an evening. But the violence is becoming so rigorous that it is slowly spreading across the rest of the country.

Thought the Purge was about 'classism' (the 'discriminatory' eradication of the lower class), but here it is all about racism. Tricky angle, because you get all the clichés again and it doesn't add anything to the storyline of the other Purge films. Disgusting agenda, nothing more. However, it does give itself a number of interesting tricks (why the masks?! Interesting point, zero attention!) and the dilemma from the government's perspective (lend a hand or not?) is also pushed through in one weakly written piece. You can do a lot with that, right? No, it's more important that that Wesley Snipes-looking muthafucka poses 'tough' in every shot and potentially violent scenes are avoided (we don't see the attack on the full church?????). Blumhouse does it again. Boring, average shitfest.

And that while parts 2 and 3 were very entertaining.

Awful.

In all honesty, I've all but forgotten the previous parts. Part 1 was still manageable because of the 1 location, but 2 and 3 are strangely enough as 1 part in my memory. This part is, however, clearly the least. That's mainly because it doesn't want you to be taken into the story at all. It's all loose sand. You have 0 bond with any character. Bad Guys are totally random and the real bad guy in the control room has also disappeared without a trace in the last 30 minutes. As well as that dark guy. Yes, he came back for a while.

Then you can be hip and say. "well I watch it for the kills and atmosphere. I don't look for a story anyway" But even then it's a lot of misery and you can wonder why we need to be bored with so many nonsensical attempts at plot. So just leave that alone.

You must be a big fan of luminous lenses if you want to condone all that. It also got light very quickly at the end, hehe. What a gaudy mess from Hollywood.

1.5*

Certainly not bad.

And perhaps better than The Purge: Anarchy.

After three parts it was time to make a kind of prologue; of how it all started. The Purge 1 is set in 2022 and that was quite a distant future for 2013. This part is supposed to take place sooner… close to 2018/19. oh my...

Because here it is all about the experiment that is done before the rule takes effect in all states. The government chooses Staten Island and apparently the dark people are being used for this experiment. Disagreements soon arise. The new policy is being protested fiercely, with some eager to vent their anger and frustrations. The characters are also very well portrayed. That brother Issaiah who wants revenge on that crazy Skeletor (Crazy extra by the way), his crazy sister with a few other tough ladies who even take the plunge after realizing that peace is no use, psychos in scary masks... Stereotypes this film is not short. In addition, there are plenty of cool shootouts and massacres (mainly that Purge Party was one of the highlights. And oh yeah... also something with drones, and then those scenes in which the government enjoys the gloating .

No, despite the bad reviews I was able to enjoy myself with this print. Will there be a part 5?
