The Dead the Damned and the Darkness plot

In a savage land where zombies roam free, Lieutenant Colonel Sawyer is also armed with machine guns, body armor and a lot of courage. He is on a mission to give his family a dignified burial at sea. But to reach the shore, he must travel through a quarantined and infested zone and fight his way through hordes of bloodthirsty zombies. Along the way, he encounters a group of survivors, including a young woman, who, like him, is a target for the undead monsters.
