I think this is a reasonable film.

Of course it doesn't come close to the original, but we already knew that.

At first Jason Mamoa was supposed to play this role, but in the end Skaskård was chosen... who actually also makes this film an above average film.

He really plays his role strongly.

Furthermore, the film deviates somewhat from the original and that is not entirely for the better.

All in all...pretty good.

Should this be a remake of my beloved favorite movie of all time?

I don't think the creators even saw the original. The whole essence is missing.

Yes, there is an Eric and a Shelly in it and that says it all.

A circus of exaggerated gory situations in a confusing story failed to captivate me for a second.

What a terrible tragedy this is.

This is not just a disappointment; it is an outright disgrace on film history. Every minute of this disaster is torture and an undeniable example of how to completely destroy a legendary story.

Director Rupert Sanders takes on the remake of the Gothic classic and turns it into an unfocused mess. First of all, it takes a very long time before we see Bill Skarsgård as the real Crow and the main part of the first hour is spent on a meaningless relationship development. This means that the action scenes take just as long to come, but fortunately Sanders does make them nicely bloody and brutal. The entire sequence in the opera is pleasantly memorable because of this and the film can still recover somewhat positively. Skarsgård also acts very strongly, but his character is barely introduced and after a while you as a viewer doubt whether he is even playing the leading role. The character of FKA Twigs is namely developed considerably further, but without success. The characters remain boring, the first hour remains equally uninteresting and Sanders tests far too much of your patience to make this remake digestible. All positives go to the last half hour as well as the solid acting.
