More Napoleon Dynamite than Kick-Ass, with dry skits about an overweight übernerd (Rainn Wilson) who gets into latex to fight crime. Because he just got dumped by his mentally unstable girlfriend (Liv Tyler), of course. For a hyperactive drug dealer (Kevin Bacon) who points out "superhero" Frank that he has lost in the competition around his great love. And then there is also a beautiful young lady (Ellen Page) who wants to be his acrobatic sidekick at all costs. It's not that I rolled off the couch laughing, but 'Super' (2010) consistently manages to retain the dry absurdism until a rather moving ending. Some snippets, like the Divine Touch on a naked braincase, are even downright bizarre in a Monty Python-esque way.

Fine.

Kick-Ass is actually one of my favorite movies, mainly because the violence there is way over the top. Super, which by the way is from a director I can appreciate, was less. But it was still a pretty fun movie.

The violence is too little, but very raw. It's because of the latter that I can appreciate it, and at the beginning it was even quite funny to watch. Wilson was doing quite well, and Bacon was also having a good time as a drug lord of sorts.

However, Page was a big mistake, most painful and unfunny character in a movie like this. Couldn't stand her with the overly exaggerated acting, too bad, because she was really good in Inception.

Still a nice video

A wonderful self-relativizing superhero film and R-rated that mixes the story of Kick-Ass with the level of Deadpool. But also slightly less than Kick-Ass, and better than Deadpool. The film seems a bit standard with the good guys and bad guys, but goes for it completely with absurd humor. The momentum is not there and Rainn Wilson fits in the lead role, he does not lift the film any higher. It remains a well-made comedy that stands out mainly because it is R-rated. Which you don't see much with a cast like this. Not a classic, but highly recommended in the genre. And for the lovely Ellen Page who (as she herself says in the film) looks very good in her costume.
