When former black ops soldier Cross (Steven Seagal) and his partner Manning (Steve Austin) are assigned to dismantle an old prison, they must also supervise two newly arrived female inmates. Before long, an elite group of mercenaries storms into the prison in search of the newbies. Then, when the women's true identities come to light, Tom and Manning realize they've gotten into something bigger than they initially thought.

Steven Seagal started his direct-to-video career at the end of 2001 and since then has only delivered a tummy… uh… hand full of good movies. Maximum Conviction is one of them. The film has/contains an interesting setting, a decent script, a number of brutal action scenes - scenes that are well portrayed in contrast to other DTV work; Waxman's directing isn't that bad here - and a fine supporting cast. Steven Seagal himself talks, walks and fights for most of the film. A relief when you are familiar with his other low budget vehicles. All in all, a solid 5 (2.5*), with the possibility of increasing it to a maximum of 3*.

If I'm going to watch a movie with Seagal then I know exactly what I'm getting into and I won't whine about acting, improbabilities or plot. This is just an hour and a half of fun, and I'm mainly talking about the fight scenes. It is clear from the first moment who will face each other at the end of the film and which of the two will be completely spanked. One thing I regretted about this film; I would have loved to see a fight between Manning and Charlotte....

Watched again today, this time on Blu-ray.
Simply a wonderful action movie that takes place in a secret prison, in which there are 2 women who want to have a Marshall team and try to get hold of them.
Seagal and Austin try to prevent this, with another Swat team helping them.
Plenty of fights and shootings.
All in all very entertaining.
