Ruthland, Missouri. 14-year-old teenager Eric Dobbs has been passionate about the weather since childhood. After school, he not only goes to work at his school's weather station, but also at home not to keep away from his computer screen to closely follow the evolution of storms. He discovers that within a few hours his village will be hit by the so-called centenary storm: a collision of two powerful lightning fields that will make the village disappear from the map. He tries to inform everyone of this immense danger, but even his father Tom, the local sheriff, does not believe his claims. After all, he is too busy with the commotion that has arisen in the village around the construction of a large retail chain and with the pushy foreman Bart Hansen, who only has the pursuit of profit and not the safety of his people in mind.
