Laws of Deception plot

"You don't know the truth until you've lived the lie."

As a little boy, Evan witnesses a brutal mafia murder of his parents. Twenty years later, he is studying law at the University of Miami, determined to become Miami's best lawyer. Then he has an affair with fellow student Elise. She is hired by Gino Carlucci, the man who had his parents murdered at the time, to find out what Evan remembers from the night of the murder. When Elise has gathered enough information, she leaves Evan to ask him to act as a lawyer for her defense five years later. Elise killed her current husband Gino. Nevertheless, the old flame flares up again between them.
