Tasty.

Toyoda simply continues where Miike left off. Of course there are some shifts in emphasis, but the grey, grim atmosphere continues nicely in this third part. Fans of the comic should pay attention because Toyoda has chosen his own story, no one else will worry about it.

Visually atmospheric, Toyoda is great with soundtracks and the actors have a lot of fun. There are not many references to the first two parts, but it is recommended to watch Miike's films first, if only to get used to the setting. These kinds of "school gangs fighting for the school government" films are something special.

Toyoda does a great job, but that's not so surprising since he also has Aoi Haru to his name. The film itself colors nicely within the lines, but that's no problem since this is already a very small niche.

4.0* and an extensive review

Even without having seen the previous films, Kurôzu Explode feels like a tired and dated affair. The sound quality is terrible, the dialogues are dull, the music is shrilly pasted over it, and visually everything looks like it was shot with a cheap video camera in the early 80s. Furthermore, the action, characters, and story are so flat and characterless that the film collapses after only a few minutes. It is almost incomprehensible that a film from 2014 can feel so shaky and outdated.
