Kandahar plot
"The only thing more dangerous than the mission is the escape."
Tom Harris is an undercover CIA agent in Afghanistan. An intelligence leak reveals his hidden identity and secret mission. After unmasking, Tom and his translator, stuck in the heart of hostile territory, must fight their way out of the desert and reach a rally point in Kandahar. During their escape, Tom must evade enemy elite troops and foreign spies, who have started the hunt for them.

I found the film Greenland by the Waugh/Butler duo to be a surprisingly strong film. Mainly because of the focus, original angles and tone. Although this Kandahar did not necessarily appeal to me, I still wanted to see it. And where Greenland has its own touch, Kandahar is really a dime a dozen. Well made and atmospheric (you really feel like you are in those parts, partly due to the language), that is for sure, but not surprising at all. Action is reasonably well put together, but apart from a scene in the night, not very special. All in all, the film lasts just a bit too long, although the second hour passes smoothly. Some political statements here and there, but that should not have much name. Also reasonably acted with a warm centerpiece Negahban who looks somewhat like Sean Connery. Great movie for an afternoon at the cinema, but that's about it. 3.0*.

Another excellent realistic action movie from director Rik Roman Waugh. His films have a sense of being there and characters that you care about.
Gerard Butler gets too little recognition as an action star. He acts better than Dwayne Johnson and does not opt for big Hollywood productions. But should he do that? Rather him than The Rock.
I miss him in Expendebles 4 trailer. Why they're for 50 cents and Megan Fox and not Butler is beyond me.

Decent action movie. The story is simple. The effect just doesn't work. The build up is nice and tension and action are quickly alternated. The film remains captivating until the very end. The film contains a number of exciting moments, but it does not really bite the nail. It also applies to the action. Nice action scenes but not very spectacular. The film also looks neat. The acting is okay. 3.0.
