The feminists might enjoy it, but for everyone else, this movie is just a bland mess. GI Jane may have some strong moments, but unfortunately even more weak ones. And you can expect a little more from a man like Ridley Scott.

I was definitely impressed with this movie. Normally I'm not a big fan of Demi Moore's acting but she's really good in this movie. How strong does she come across. And what a power! I found it very interesting to watch a story in which a woman is holding her own in the world of seals. I don't consider myself a feminist, but I did enjoy this story and see how strong she is.

Lamentable.

I hardly expected otherwise, but GI Jane is effectively an idiotic, ludicrous macho movie. Only the macho isn't a man - well, it's full of machos, because we're dealing with Navy Seals. The übermacho is Demi Moore, who, against all odds, and despite all kinds of opposition, actually proves that women don't just belong in the kitchen. Who would have thought it possible? It's Hollywood, so any nuance, on any level, can't be done. Ridley Scott, always fickle, can't really do anything with it either. He uses his budget, but otherwise this is a dragon of a movie. Stupid and cliche. No advertising for the military, nor for the women's cause.
