Too bad Miller only makes generic action/thriller movies these days. Seems a lot less interesting/challenging than his earlier work. Automaton Transfusion, Silent Night and Under the Bed were great horror movies and promised a lot of good for the future. Now (the future!) we get this: a chewed-up crime plot with a meaningless Bruce Willis who has been on autopilot for years. There is still a certain quality to be seen in his direction and the cinematography is (although tame) on a high level, but that just doesn't come into its own in this kind of run-of-the-mill work. Too bad...

Because of the bad reviews I thought this would be a terrible movie.

Now, it's not a very strong film, but I still liked it.

It's shocking how Americans' norms and values are so different from ours.

Teaching a small child to shoot deer? And letting him walk around with a rifle?

Furthermore, it is a very simple story.

Hayden looks good, but what a terribly annoying ugly woman he had in this movie? Very badly cast.

The child is playing nicely.

Quickly watch it once, when you really have nothing to do. Otherwise leave it.

A few rare action scenes and a good lead role by Hayden Christensen provide the necessary plus points, but First Kill doesn't have much more to offer. An unnecessarily full story (peppered with clichés), an unconvincing supporting role by Bruce Willis and a not very exciting finale are mainly to be seen for that. It all goes from pillar to post without highlights and the best scenes are already after 20 minutes, but fortunately this film by director Steven C. Miller is not too long and at times quite entertaining. Still, the expectation is that you will have completely lost track of the course of this whole thing after a single week.
