A refined B-movie actioner that's still very enjoyable to watch thanks to the well-cast Del Toro. I love seeing him in this role as a frustrated petty criminal who's clearly flustered (without becoming hysterical, of course) because things aren't going the way he'd hoped. Excess Baggage is largely predictable, but it does have the necessary humor and fun scenes to keep things fresh. It'll never be a top-notch film, but I did enjoy it.

This was on TV and I caught it. I didn't think it was a bad film, though it could have been a bit shorter, as it wasn't always that captivating. The cast was decent, and the film looked fine.

It's fine to catch it when it's on TV, but nothing more.

It all just meanders along without impressing in any way. There's no acting spark between Del Toro and Silverstone, who are seemingly incompatible. Certainly not the couple of the year in film. The bad guys prove more likable than the main characters, and the family drama between father and daughter, clamoring for attention, could have done better. The film is a bit of a failure, because without passion and a compelling crime plot, there's little left to be positive about. I'm rounding it down to 2.5 stars because a bit of chemistry does develop between the two, but that's about it.
